The Making Something up at the Last Second Blog

Why hello there my faithful minions.

Today I will be teaching a very important life skill that I have found to be very useful in all aspects of my daily life. It is, making something up on the spot and somehow making it relevant while sounding mildly intelligent. Now as most of you know, I'm very good at sounding mildly intelligent. And no, that wasn't sarcasm. But something that you may not have known about me is that me sounding mildly intelligent is actually all a facade that masks my true form. The ultimate Professional - 'crastinator. Now here is a good example on how to write an intelligent sounding blog while under pressure and with a completely empty mind. 

Step 1) Find a topic that you can actually somewhat relate to a little bit which was relevant in your class. 

"In this last week, we learned of the Meyer V. Nebraska case in out American studies course."

 Make sure to use words that you normally wouldn't see, like "course" instead of "class" to make it sound like you put effort into typing that sentence.

Step 2) explain why the topic is related to you. 

"The Meyer V. Nebraska case was a case about a law in the state of Nebraska which deemed it unconstitutional to teach foreign languages. I was/am strongly objected to this decision because I myself am a quote unquote "alien" and I would probably have not been able to talk to anyone in America had MY own country, Japan decided not to teach me the fundamentals of the English language. I also did not understand why the state of Nebraska decided to do this in the first place, even though our teacher explained I still did not fully comprehend what it means." 

Notice my writing out of the words "quote unquote" to add emphasis to the phrase, and it is okay to at least tweak the information a little bit. It is true that I did not understand why Nebraska decided to do this, but it was because I was not paying attention, not that the the teacher did not explain it clearly ^_^

Step 3) Explain the outcome of the situation and weather you agree/disagree and why

"The case went all the way to the supreme court, where a majority ruling decided that yes, it is in fact unconstitutional to ban teachers from teaching foreign languages in their classrooms. I wholly agree with this decision, because I find that having a knowledge base that includes definitions in different languages makes it much easier for me personally to find different ways of solving the same problem, because all different cultures have different perspectives on the world."

As you can see, I wrap it up very nicely with some big picture ideas that make you sound passionate.

The Blog on Tardiness

So, people are sometimes tardy to class, and to be honest, I'm writing this 3rd blog over 1 and a half weeks overdue, trust me I have some experience. But being tardy in class isn't really a big deal. Imagine if you were in a war, let's say you needed some backup, the difference between 5 minutes and 1 minute could cost many people their lives. So, going off of that, I'm gonna talk about communication and how it affected the civil war (Yay!). First off, at the time of the Civil war, the advancements in transportation and communications were absolutely huge. For starters, the railroad was invented, and the telegraph as well was prominent. So the natural strategy was to cut off communications, supply, and troops and bit by bit, shut down the roots of the opposing side. You can see in the late states of the war, the North gunning down train hubs and cutting off the Souths reach into the north bit by bit. Understandably, after a few of the Souths main frontiers cities into the North fell, it didn't take long for the South to fall completely. Another tactic to delay the South was to invade the river branches on the Mississippi and cut down boats bringing supplies to troops. This eventually led the North to make a huge snake using it's Navy and captured points on the Mississippi to make "Scotts Great Snake", a huge cordon around the south, and that was the end of the American Civil War.

The Snake in Britains Boot

During the warring period between Britain and the 13 Colonies of the "New World", There are a lot of pictures of propaganda, and the pictures mostly are of snakes. One, with the caption of "Don't Tread on me,""Join or Die", many bold statements and all the slogans, flags, posters, whatnot, have snakes on them. Why snakes? Does it have anything to do perhaps, with the Bible, and Christianity being the Brits main religion? At least, that's what I think it is. There a few points of evidence I can refer to here on my theory. One, the Americans, Puritans, hated the British for many reasons, kicking them out of Britain being one of them. Two, Puritanism was very different from Christianity, and the British kicked the Puritans out in the first place because they were not following Christianity. Three, Puritans didn't care for the Christians (Duh). And our conclusion? Puritans made Americas "Mascot", a snake because they were such horrid animals to the British, and they were pretty much the same as demons. There are probably more "correct" reasons as to why the Americans used a snake as their poster critter, but my theory is both interesting, and opposes the British so I win. Also on a side note, snakes are pretty scary man, if you step on a rattle snake, you better be wearing long pants or you're going straight to the ER. That probably added some effect to the whole, "Don't tread on me" to make it, "Don't tread on me unless you want to go to your medic and have to get your leg sawed off" Not very appealing.

Thomas Jefferson, a matter of hypocrisy

Thomas Jefferson. He did a lot of good things for this country. Like establishing the Declaration of Independence and even presiding over the country it's self. BUT, he was also a huge hypocrite. Even if it doesn't seem so from all the good stuff we hear in 8th grade about the founding fathers, the stuff you don't hear is what really makes it. Here, have a quote from the Notes from the State of Virginia, "we have had under our eyes the races of black and of red men, they have never yet been viewed by us as subjects of natural history." Okay, now that doesn't sound like something Jefferson would say right? It completely contradicts "All men are created equal", Unless of course, he doesn't consider people of colour to be "Men". And even after the talk of freeing the slaves, he comes up with some "When freed, he is to be removed beyond the reach of mixture." stuff. I might also want to add, this guy had children with his own slaves so I don't know what his game is. Let's look at some definitions, "Hypocrite: A person who engages in Hypocrisy" and I guess "Hypocrisy: The claim or pretense of holding beliefs, standards, opinions, qualities, behaviors, ect. that one does not actually hold." So, how does that apply to Mr.Jefferson? Well for starters, the words "All men are created equal" doesn't apply if he himself owns slaves and treats them quite harshly, according to his Notes on the State of Virginia. He talks about experimenting on them to see if they were truly human, like burning them, subject to "Solvents", all the fun things anyone would love to do to human beings. So, is he really such a good person? Does he really fit the Encyclopedia Britannica's definition of him as the "Long regarded as Americas most distinguished Apostle or Liberty"? Think about it.
